Consultation
Consultation means the process of seeking, discussing, and considering the views of other participants, and, where feasible, seeking agreement with them regarding matters arising in the Section 106 process.(36 CFR Section 800.16 (f)).
ESTHPO History
The ESTHPO was established on January 17, 1995. The program was to serve as a representative contact in protecting historic properties and Cultural traditions on Eastern Shoshone Lands and Aboriginal homelands.
On June 14, 2011, the Eastern Shoshone Tribe became the 119th Tribe to assume historic preservation duties that were previously the responsiblity of the State.

Tribal Historic Preservation Office
The National Historic Preservation Act as amended in 1992 directs the Secretary of the Interior to establish a National Tribal Preservation Program. In accordance with the proposed rule 36 CFR Part 61.8(e), the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer will be a salaried position which will be staffed throughout the tenure of operation of its Historic Preservation Office program. The Tribal Historic Preservation Officer will be the individual tasked with the duty to carry forth the Historic Preservation Office program and to ensure that Section 106 responsibilities assumed by the Eastern Shoshone Tribe are accomplished in a satisfactory manner.
